LabCentral Ignite’s Career Forge program identifies exceptional people and empowers them with the relevant skills needed to forge their path into the biotech industry. Forgers will receive in-lab technical training, workplace competency training, and job placement support.

Internship

MLSC Data Science Internship Program

This program creates new internship opportunities for those at Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree levels to work with research institutions and companies doing paid work for up to six months. Internships can be part or full-time and can take place for companies at any time during the 12-month program year. Through this program, the MLSC also seeks to increase access to internships for those traditionally underrepresented in the data science field, particularly those identifying as women, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latinx.

MassBioEd Life Sciences Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship programs for Biomanufacturing Technicians and Clinical Trial Associates provide accelerated training for individuals new to the industry to gain foundational knowledge and acquire industry-recognized skills. The Program is FREE to apprentices and includes a monthly stipend while in class, along with generous wages and benefits during the year of on-the-job training.

Career Connect: Biomedical Careers Program

This program trains adults for sustainable life sciences technology careers with a pipeline to local, high-demand employment opportunities. It also provides education and training on workforce skills aligned with industry needs, the development of soft skills that are crucial to employers, and support services that address barriers to education, employment, and career advancement.

GMGI Biotechnology Certificate Program

The Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute prepares fellows for entry-level technician positions in biotechnology. The duration of this program is over a 7-month period, divided into two semesters, followed with a paid 12-week internship. Students learn technical skills, soft skills, instrumentation, quality measure control that is necessary for entry-level technician roles, coupled with mentorship from industry professionals.

JVS Bridge to College & Careers

This is a 23-week program that includes academic, career, and financial coaching to help prepare you for college and beyond. The biotechnology program prepares you for a career working in the thriving Biotechnology industry doing lab research, manufacturing, and quality control. Classes are part-time in the morning or evening. After JVS, Biotechnology students enroll at Quincy College in their year-long Biotechnology and Good Manufacturing Practices Certificate program.

As a continuation of the Youth Scholars program, MGH College Scholars supports alumni as they enter and graduate college. Students get to experience one-on-one academic coaching, social/emotional support, receiving scholarships from $1000-$5,000 to all MGH College Scholars.

Undergraduates have the opportunity to enroll in a paid summer internship, that includes housing hosted at Harvard Medical School. This is for students who have a passion for science, are fueled by curiosity, and want to see what it's like to pursue a Ph.D./MD.

Summer Research Opportunities at Harvard (SROH)

Interns are given the opportunity to conduct research and get involved in discussions with Harvard faculty, build on presentation and research discussion skills, join field trips with other Harvard summer programs, live on campus, and have access to Harvard's resources. Provides high school students an opportunity to experience STEM careers through a 7-week paid summer internship at the Ragon Institute. High schoolers are expected to work 25 hours per week and will be paid $15 an hour.

Science Club for Girls' mission is to foster excitement, confidence, and literacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities by providing free, experiential programs and by maximizing meaningful interactions with women-in-STEM mentors.

A free week-long program for economically disadvantaged middle-school students in the Boston area hosted on the MIT campus. The program focuses on inspiring students to be interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields through fun and educational activities, challenges, and projects.

Research Science Institute (RSI)

RSI is a free summer science and engineering program for high school students that combines on-campus coursework in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research. Scholars participate in a week of intensive STEM classes with accomplished professors, followed by a five-week research internship where students conduct individual projects under the tutelage of mentors who are experienced scientists and researchers.

LEAH Knox Scholars Program

LEAH Knox Scholars Biomedical Research supports a diverse group of top science students from school systems in the Greater Boston area including Boston, Cambridge, and Everett high schools. These students are encouraged to grow their interest in science through a two-year, multi-industry partnership that provides high-level experiential learning opportunities in the life sciences.

Through this program, MLSC facilitates and funds internship opportunities for underrepresented and economically disadvantaged high school students throughout Massachusetts. For select school districts, the program also offers a pre-internship laboratory training program, providing rigorous biotechnology/biomedical and professional skills development

Innovators For Purpose

iFp works to inspire youth from underrepresented groups to become innovators who create a positive impact in the world. iFp Studios (ages 14-18), brings together aspiring creatives, technologists, and change-makers to work collaboratively with professional designers, software developers, engineers, and others on real-world student-initiated and client-sponsored projects. iFp Labs (ages 12-14) engages students in both creative and analytical problem-solving strategies.

MGH Elementary and Middle School STEM Clubs

For grades 3-5 STEM Clubs' goal is to create more engagement in STEM-related subjects and introduce students to a variety of STEM careers. Senior STEM Clubs (grades 6-8) organized at three Boys and Girls Clubs, host hands-on science and technology activities.

MGH Youth Scholars

A STEM program aimed at High School students, partners with the following schools: East Boston High School, Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers, Revere High School, Chelsea High School, and the Charlestown community. This program provides a weekly curriculum on the MGH site, with the objective to create ambition for colleges, how it relates to a science/health career, steps to get there.

MGH Summer Jobs Program

Standing as one of the top employers of the Summer Jobs Program, MGH employs students from Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, and Revere. Departments and health centers offer employment ranging from Anesthesia and the Center for Regenerative Medicine to the Charlestown, Chelsea, Revere HealthCare Centers and the Tissue Engineering Lab. In the summer students learn about jobs in health and science industry through the implementation of weekly professional development and skills workshops.

SySTEMic Flow

This program was initiated with the purpose to support black girls and women in furthering their passion and interest in STEM. The goal is to increase the number of black women who pursue and graduate with a STEM degree. This program in particular adheres to a relevant STEM curriculum, while also addressing and breaking the barriers of social issues that young women need to be made aware of.

Boston University Summer Pathways

Summer Pathways is a seven-day residential program that gives young women the opportunity to live in a BU dorm and also discover the infinite possibilities that await them in science and engineering. Participants learn about current research in science and engineering, as well as careers in these fields from women working in them.

Boston University GROW (Greater Boston Research Opportunities for Young Women)

This is a six-week paid internship for young women in high school who are seriously interested in STEM careers. Participants will earn a stipend of $1500 working in a BU research lab. Students will be placed in a biology or chemistry lab and participate in cutting-edge research in a collaborative group session. Participants will also visit a local pharmaceutical or biotech company, learn about careers in STEM fields, and present their findings at a research symposium.

Boston University BioBugs

In partnership with The Biology Graduate Student Association and LERNet, this program hosts 3-hour labs and career panels for local high school students during a week in December and May. The program is designed to encourage local high school students to become excited about science by exposing them to sophisticated scientific equipment, providing interaction with graduate students, and introducing students to a university campus.

This summer program provides a learning experience for students to understand the basic techniques and concepts of DNA science. Students imagine themselves as a biotech company, working together on a team to design and execute a plan to solve problems in biotech.

STEM Enrichment Programs are one-week courses designed to provide students the opportunity to experience hands-on science in a biotechnology laboratory. Held in state-of-the-art teaching labs at Gloucester Biotechnology Academy, the curricula immerse students, ages 13-18, in authentic laboratory investigations. Students use cutting-edge biotechnology equipment, the scientific method, and critical thinking to analyze samples and make data-driven conclusions.
